To say I’m disappointed is an massive understatement. To say Mailin and Zoe decided against reporting Ben is the most lazy and harmful excuse ever. Victims of SA can and should always have the choice to report or not BUT Mailin and Zoe aren’t real people, their are characters in a show that’s broadcasted to many other teens that might go through such a situation. They are supposed to show “the right” thing to do and the right thing to do is to go to the police. A lot of victims are scared to do it and will never press charges upon their abusers, this season should’ve shown that it’s okay to do, that victims should speak up and be heard. But no, all Druck did was let an abuser get away without ANY consequences. He clearly didn’t mean the apology and deleting a picture won’t solve the problem (he sent it to others that clearly didn’t see anything wrong with it, he could easily get the picture back). They paint this situation as a “win” for the girls but it’s so so obviously not.
I already thought this “revenge” was going to be bad but this is even worse than I thought. Fuck the Druck writers, honestly, this is bullshit.
This Druck season isn’t bad because Mailin is a straight, white, cisgender, allosexual, neurotypical wealthy girl.
It’s bad because the writing is atrocious.
We’re just used as a fandom to justifying badly written seasons because they focus on minority characters (esp if they’re light-skinned boys/amab people who love boys). Case in point: Druck s7, which also fumbled every topic it presented.
Eva Mohn’s season in Skam focused on a straight, white, cisgender, allosexual, neurotypical wealthy girl, but it can’t even be spoken about in the same sentence as Mailin’s season, because Eva’s season actually is impeccably written, acted and directed. This season is bad because it’s bad, and if it was good but still focused on an Eva type, some people would’ve still complained that it wasn’t gay, for sure, but the season would still be good.
And this season was written badly from the very first clip, it’s not like we needed to be 9 weeks into the season to tell that the writing was bad. Already in week 1 characters were behaving inexplicably, out of character compared to previous seasons, or behaving randomly to justify jumping to the next plot point. Like the cashqueens talking about sex for the first two clips and then never again.
